OVERVIEW:
PPC have completed the connection of the Swan Annexe to the Ponders End Heat Network. The works involve design, installation, testing, and commissioning of a thermal substation, including circa 275m primary district heating 100mm diameter series 3 pipework.
The pipework used in the project is connected to the existing network via a hot tap connection. The works in the plant room include a heat exchanger with interface pipework.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
- Hot tap connection onto existing network.
- Connection of the existing district heating network without disrupting the service to the other end users
- Adapt an existing basement room to a district energy plant room
- Plant movement and installation challenges and ensuring the future maintainability of the equipment
- Restricted access for delivering plant equipment into the plant room
- Existence of other utilities enroute
- Existence of an installation in a plant room that was not designed for district heating substation facilities
- An old building with ACM paint on the inside walls
- Refurbishment activities taking place in the building by other contractors employed by the local authority
